Meanings rest in people, not in words

We had a group activity in last tutorial class. Few people sitting together and reading newspaper...? oh nono... I mean we were required to find phrases or words from the newspaper to make a sentence that have more than 1 meaning. At first, we found it quite difficult to combine the phrases or words. But as we flipped through the newspaer, we actually saw many ambiguous phrases. We just have to be creative and think out of the box to find the second meaning of the phrase. Some groups had really creative thinking, they had really made up interesting sentences. Basically, all the groups had done a very good job. After all, I did not just learn how many meaning can a sentence have. Instead, I learnt meanings rest in people, not in words as well. Some sentences that we made up, if we hadn't voiced out the meaning we thought, the others wouldn't have known what else can that sentence mean. So 'meanings rest in people, not in words' is applied in this activity.
